I just sent off my first resume for an MFT trainee position at the YWCA. You have to get 150 pre degree supervised hours in order to graduate from the MS clinical program. After that, another 2,850 post degree hours before you can get your MFT licensure.
hah.
As soon as the semester started, one of my professors told us that even though our placement isn't until late Aug/early Sept, you have to start applying NOW.
Completely caught me off guard.
Fortunately, I usually have a pretty updated resume saved on my comp. I just had to go thru and taiylor it for the position. It's the cover letter that was a bitch. You have to rewrite those things for every damn position.
Anyway, here's hoping for an interview. I know two 2nd years in the program who are finishing up their placement there, so I figure I can pick their brains before the interview. That, and they can put in a good word for me.
My professor told me we should apply for 3-5 different positions...meh.
I'll see what happens with this one and go from there.

Anonymous
The only person who ever posts comments to my blog with an identity is Marni. I would like to put out a request to all you anonymous posters to show your faces! You don't need to sign up for blogger, but at least sign your name so I know who is visiting my blog!!
Since it always says "anonymous" I can't tell if it is one person or several different people...I'm more likely to blog more often if I see more people are reading it :)

Don't be so dramatic
Brian and I went up to Bear Valley to spend the weekend at his friend Scott's cabin. For whatever reason, my body didn't like the high altitude one bit. When we got there, they all started drinking. After ONE SHOT of grey goose I was buzzed, bordering on drunk.
No, I'm not a lightweight...apparently, the altitude will do that.I decided not to drink any more, because I really wasn't looking to get wasted. Barfing at a strange place in front of people you don't know all that well = no fun.
An hour or so later I remember feeling really dizzy and nauseous. I was surprised because I couldn't believe one shot would do that to me. I remember standing up and telling Brian I didn't feel good. He got up to take me to the bathroom and that's the last I remember. After that I woke up on the floor with Brian trying to wake me up with Scott and Rich standing over us.
Apparently I fainted, fell, and bumped my head on the hard tile floor

Go figure...I missed the carpet by like 2 feet.
It was a really weird experience not being able to remember that small chunk of time. We figured it was likely the high 8,000 foot altitude that made that small amount of alcohol screw me over.
Lesson learned: no alcohol over 5,000 feet.

Baby Blanket for Connor
Just finished up a nice fleecy blanket for the baby my best friend is expecting soon. Instead of square knots, I tied every single one of those fringe pieces like a balloon.

These knots are nice and tight, and I think look nicer overall....
But my fingers now hurt like hell.
I probably should not have decided to "power through" and taken some time to rest.
Oh well, it's super cute, and I'm happy with the way it turned out. Perfect blanket to throw on the floor under the baby while he is pushing up and developing those super strong manly muscles!!

Cereal Test
The last box has been unpacked and I am officially moved in. There was some drama with AT&T getting my phone and net transferred over 2 days late. BUT, it is up now and I'm a happy camper.
I didn't realize how much I depend on my happy internet time until I wasn't able to access it at all for two days... I'm a complete junkie.
I'm off to the post office tomorrow to pick up my mail key and get all the mail that has been accumulating in the box.
Everything is put away, but I'm still doing the "cereal test" to figure out where things are the most practical. It's what my cousin calls the 6am half awake walk to the kitchen to get the cereal out of the cabinet only to find that you have reached the cabinet full of cups.
THAT's where the cereal should go...lol.
On another note, I'm completely IN LOVE with my dishwasher. How the hell have I gone on without one for the last 7 years?
I think the kitty is IN LOVE with the carpet. With the tile floors in the old place, she would only sprawl out on the living room or bathroom rugs. Now, she sprawls out anywhere. Oh, and she appears to think that vertical blinds are the best thing ever. Especially when running through the ones right behind my headboard at 3am.

Things don't always work out the way that you would like them to...
...But they always work out one way or the other.
So I got a call from my professor saying that she's sorry she had to do this to us but school should come first so I have to be sure I'm in class. No help on that end.
We happened to have a meeting later in the day so I was able to talk to my boss directly. She was in a good mood and understood that it wasn't my fault, and there wasn't a lot that I could do. Unfortunately, we simply just don't have any teachers to take over my class so the only option was to close it down completely and open up a new one on a night that I am free.
I knew the guys weren't going to take this one well...
So, I go to class later that night and figured I'd just be 100% honest with them and tell them how everything went down. Told them that if they liked me, move with me to Friday night and if they don't, this is the chance to jump ship and get shifted to another class with another teacher.
So then I wrote down all the possible times we could create the class on the board and told them that I would let them figure out what would work best for everyone, and then I'll make myself available.
EVERY SINGLE ONE CAME WITH ME.
They didn't bitch, they didn't complain, they just took 10 minutes or so to talk and figure it out so that everyone could come.
And that was that. I was absofuckinglutely amazed.
I called my boss later to tell her that we wouldn't have to shuffle anyone to a new class and that everyone could come with me. This is the email I got from her this morning:
"Kristin, you are a star! All the guys from your Tuesday 7:30pm class want to move to Friday. I am amazed. That just shows what an impact you guys are having on them and it should make you proud of yourselves. Frank and I were together tonight when I got your message and we said what a great statement that is and how proud of you we are."
Man, that was a confidence boost and a half.

Angry Rant
Today has NOT been a very good day. The classes for the MS clinical program were scheduled to be on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I currently teach classes on Monday and Tuesday nights, so I figured everything was fine.
Then today, exactly ONE WEEK before school starts, my professor sends out an email to let us know that the Friday class has been switched to Tuesday night.
Fuck.
I cannot miss my class but at the same time, I have to give my boss enough time to find a replacement teacher for the classes I teach. If they had told us this before I could have had the mandatory one month notice to figure things out.
But no. SEVEN fucking days to figure shit out.
My teacher pretty much told me I HAD to be in class and wasn't willing to work with me and my boss is telling me she needs a month. I don't know what to do.
Not only that, but I'm already teaching the bare minimium that I can afford. I can't afford to live off of teaching just two classes on Monday nights...I need one more.
Ugh. okay, I'm done for now. I'm going to do some more packing until it is time to go to work so I can get my mind off this mess.

Ow
I hurt.
My mom and I got down on hands and knees and spent 2 hours scrubbing my kitchen floor, walls and cabinets. The floor had been swept, but there was dirt and grime in all the little pores leaving it really grimy looking.
The floor now looks brand spankin' new. I'm super sore today but it was totally worth it.
My utilities are set to switch over this Thursday and all the rest of my furniture is set to be moved out on Friday.
I'm excited!

Poop Head
I've decided I'm done being a big butt face (yes I know, so eloquently stated). Anyway, I've decided it's all positivity for the rest of the move.
In other news, I went on over to Ikea and got a king duvet and comforter for my bed. It fits SO much nicer! And it's cozy too :-)

I've really been in to the monochromatic black and white thing lately...All of my new apartment stuff will probably be in that theme.
That's all for now. :-)

Moving
Moving sucks. I'm moving into a new apartment and I haven't had a lot of help. It has been super stressful.
I try not to complain. I have been very lucky. The whole time I have gone to school, my dad has paid my rent and I have paid all my other expenses. Rent is a HUGE expense and I'm lucky to have that support while working towards my degree.
My dad owns a complex about 10 minutes away... he wants to move me there so he doesn't have to pay for my rent, and so I can take over apartment manager duties.
He tells me to move but doesn't provide any help at all. I'm not asking for much...just a car to use to transport stuff.
My dad NEVER answers his phone to schedule a time to move my big furniture. He is the only person I know with cars big enough to help me. I can tell he is ignoring them because the phone will ring once or twice and then go to voice mail, meaning he's pushing the "ignore" button.
I've been using the same two boxes to transport things back and forth because I couldn't get my hands on any more without having to buy them. I'm hoping to move all the small stuff over myself, taking one trip a day. That way, when I arrange a few people to move the big stuff, the job will be quick and easy.
I had to buy a bed. I never had one because my current apartment has one built in. I went on craigslist to find a frame, but just wasn't willing to buy a used mattress. Ick. I bit the bullet and dropped a bunch of money on the CC to get a NEW mattress. I hate to do it but at least it isn't used.
I didn't have a way to transport it so I had to find a bed with a seller willing to deliver it to me for a few bux extra. Since the mattress was new, I got the company to deliver it for free. How's THAT for limited resources? I'm awesome.

It is a queen with a pillow top so my queen quilt barely even covers it, lol. I'm gonna go invest in a king or cal king comforter so it will look a little nicer.
The unit is dirty. It was vacuumed, but there are smudgy handprints on the walls and light switches. Not to mention the LAYERS of grease and grime in the kitchen. The manager told me they cleaned it....I don't know what his idea of clean is, but I know that I've been scrubbing forever.
I spent about three hours today scrubbing and lining the cabinets in the kitchen which were completely bare. I used up the 5 roles of liner and ran out...oh well. I'll come back to it later when I get a chance to buy more. It wasn't so bad. I took my little Ipod speakers and rocked out while I cleaned :-)
Ok. I'm done complaining. I shouldn't take for granted the fact that I have FREE RENT while I'm in school. And in all honesty, I'm just mad because its dirty and I haven't had a lot of help. Once it is all put together, it is going to be a really cute little place.
